A bit more about us
We are a group of gay men of all ages. Whereas the focus at our weekly sessions is primarily on listening/viewing, there is ample opportunity to talk about musical likes and dislikes and this often leads to lively and informative discussions on music, composers and performers.
The social dimension of the Group frequently sees members linking up to attend concerts and opera in Dublin and elsewhere (we've been known to patronise the Wexford Festival and the Kilkenny Arts Festival, for example). We frequently go on trips abroad to experience the great orchestras and opera houses of Europe, taking us to Berlin (three times), Vienna (twice), Paris, Prague, Munich, Dresden & Leipzig, Budapest, Zürich, Freiburg and Baden-Baden. Last year saw our most ambitious trip to date. Three German cities opened new concert halls, so we went to a concert in each city in the course of a week at the beginning of June. Concert halls involved were the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Kulturpalast in Dresden and the utterly magnificent Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. In June this year we returned to Leipzig for concerts during the annual Bachfest there.
You don't have to be a musical scholar to be a part of things. We get together simply because we enjoy listening to music, and there's nothing stuffy or academic about it. Stated simply, we love music, and our emphasis is on sharing and enjoying classical music with other like-minded guys.
